‘For sure’: What Arne Slot has now said about facing Pep Guardiola and Man City

Pep Guardiola is set to enter his ninth season in charge of Manchester City.

During his time at the Etihad Stadium, the 53-year-old has faced off against a wide range of managers in the Premier League.

With 304 league games overlooked as City’s manager, the Spaniard has won 225 of them, winning six league trophies along the way.

Looking ahead to the 2024/25 campaign, one manager, who is set to begin his debut season in the top flight, has shared his thoughts on Guardiola and coming up against him and his City team.

Arne Slot addresses upcoming clashes against Pep Guardiola and Man City

When asked in his first media press conference (via Liverpool Echo) as Liverpool manager about facing off against Guardiola and City, Slot had this to say in response.

He said: “Something to look forward to but there are many good managers in this league. Pep is one of them for sure. I’ve seen a lot of that rivalry and a lot of the games.

“I’m looking forward to working here, but not specifically against Man City. At the moment Ipswich is the next one and most important one.”

Slot will have a tough task on his hands to dethrone Guardiola and City

During his time in charge of Feyenoord, the 45-year-old, who said in his first interview with Liverpool last month that he has been inspired by Guardiola, overlooked 148 games in total, winning 97, drawing 27 and losing 24 along the way.

Bearing in mind how Guardiola has seen his City team win six Premier League titles in seven years, it’s safe to say that Slot will have a tough challenge ahead of him if he wants to do what Jurgen Klopp could only do once in his nine years at Anfield and beat the Citizens to the title.

Moving forward, time will tell if Slot will be able to make his Liverpool side title contenders by the end of the season, although, as he mentioned, it’s not just Guardiola and City he’ll need to focus on if he wants to have a successful debut campaign at the Merseyside club.
