'Not messing around': Dom Howson drop Sheffield Wednesday summer transfer verdict after Beadle return

Sheffield Wednesday’s transfer activity has received praise from Dom Howson after James Beadle signing.

Since Danny Rohl kept Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship following three successive wins at the end of the 2023/24 campaign, he has set about building on his successes by adding to his squad with several signings.

Sheffield Wednesday started the transfer window with clear intent on adding to their numbers, and they certainly haven’t slowed down in their pursuit to mould their squad ready for the 2024/25 Championship campaign.

The Owls have notably signed the likes of Yan Valery, who Rohl had previously coached as assistant whilst at Premier League side Southampton.

The attacking signings of Jamal Lowe and Polish goalscorer Olaf Kobacki have also bolstered Sheffield Wednesday’s options up top, whilst goalkeeper James Beadle has returned to the club for a second loan spell from Brighton, after an impressive second half to the 2023/24 campaign under Rohl.

Sheffield Wednesday’s transfer activity has left fans breathless, and the club are certainly worthy of that praise.

Dom Howson praises Sheffield Wednesday ‘statement’ signings

The signing of Beadle took the Owls’ signing count up to seven ahead of the new campaign, correctly warranting praise from Dom Howson.

Howson took to X to say: “Seven new players through the door at Sheffield Wednesday and we are still in the first week of July.”

Sheffield Wednesday’s early dealings are said to have shown a ‘proper statement of intent’, which shows that Dejphon Chansiri is ‘not messing around’ in ensuring that German boss Rohl is sufficiently backed to potentially take Sheffield Wednesday up to the higher echelons of the Championship league table.

After James Beadle Signing, are Sheffield Wednesday on track for perfect window

Following the 2023/24 Championship, there was uncertainty over the futures of many key figures at Sheffield Wednesday, including head coach Rohl.

However, since the German boss signed a contract, Sheffield Wednesday have approached the window head first and look on track to fill any positions in the squad that are still on the weaker side.

On top of incomings, the importance of Wednesday’s popular trio of Barry Bannan, Liam Palmer and Josh Windass all committing their future is absolutely crucial for Rohl’s plans, especially Windass who would have improved a Championship rival if he had moved on.

Striker options are still on the light side, however Rohl is keen to bring Ike Ugbo back following his successful loan spell in the 2023/24 season.

Despite the signing of Swedish midfielder Svante Ingelsson, options in the centre of the park are still slightly threadbare, however if they recruit in this position, as well as successfully land Ugbo, Sheffield Wednesday really could be on track for a perfect transfer window.
