Was Fisayo Dele-Bashiru the one that got away from Sheffield Wednesday

During his time at Sheffield Wednesday, Dele-Bashiru was often utilised from off the bench.

He showed signs of promise, however struggled to fully cement his place in the team and as a result pushed for a move to Turkey after rejecting a contract offer at Sheffield Wednesday, where he has since blossomed into a brilliant talent.

Had Sheffield Wednesday managed to tie down the Nigerian international for the 2023/24 season, he could’ve been a real asset under Rohl, who has proven that he is able to get the best out of young players, as he did with Bailey Cadamarteri this season.

Dele-Bashiru has since gone on to improve significantly whilst in Turkey, scoring five goals and contributing five assists from midfield, as well as now having the confidence to do a job on either wing.

A year on from his exit, he would be a leading Championship midfielder that could have easily demanded a seven-figure fee, as he has done with Hatayspor, however the silver lining is that Chansiri has learned to keep his most prized assets tied down.
